Block paving gives you control over the appearance of a driveway through individual units, laying patterns and contrasting borders. It works well when the parking area needs to connect with a front path or make a clear edge against planting. A good result depends on more than selecting a block: excavation, compacted support, edge restraints and water management all need to suit the property and the vehicles using it.
What goes into the work
We look at how vehicles enter, turn and park, and how people reach the front door when the drive is occupied. The pattern should work around covers, steps and thresholds, rather than leave awkward cuts at the entrance. Samples help compare colours with the house in daylight before a final choice is made.
Uneven blocks can be a symptom of movement underneath, so simply replacing the visible paving may leave the cause untouched. We assess the formation and specify preparation for the intended use. Edge restraints keep the layout contained, while carefully planned levels connect the driveway to surrounding paths and existing features.
Individual blocks can be lifted when access beneath the drive is needed, although replacement colours may weather differently. Keep the surface clear of debris and follow the product’s cleaning and joint-maintenance instructions. A local dip or recurring ponding deserves investigation rather than repeated cosmetic repair.

No. A permeable driveway needs a suitable paving system, joints and underlying construction. Conventional block paving should not be assumed to drain through simply because it has joints. We discuss water management as part of the design.
We can look at the existing paving and discuss complementary options. A newly supplied block may differ from an older weathered surface, so matching should be checked with samples rather than promised from a photograph.
The size of the drive, block selection, excavation, waste removal, access, drainage and border detail all affect the total. Compare quotations against the same scope, including what happens to the existing surface and what preparation is included.
Yes. We assess the existing drive and quote for the preparation and new paving required. The existing construction is not automatically suitable for a change of surface or a heavier vehicle load.
Outdoor paving gathers dirt, leaves and organic growth. Regular sweeping and appropriate cleaning help maintain the finish. Follow the paving manufacturer’s guidance, including replacing jointing material when the specified system requires it.
